I love it when you guys do live cover tracks. I just love the surprising element!! I was lucky enough to to see you play “I need you tonight” by INSX when on holidays in the Philippines a few years ago. I’ve always loved that song but I hadn’t listened to it until you played it that day and you made it even more amazing 💕
What a buzz it must have been to have rehearsed that so last minute and then perform it so quickly (aside from also bricking it).
Performing fresh off a spark like that is what it’s all about.
Plus, it’s a real testament to how fucking great of a band you are and to be apart of such an epic machine that can pull something like that off so well really is enviable.
Love this story! Reminds me of a time when I used to play more shows (babies kinda put that on hold lol) and I had a band want me to come sing with them but I hadn’t rehearsed the song. I decided to say yes and it was one of the most fun experiences I had! Thank you again for sharing. Nice little read for the morning and music to listen to 💕
Wow! I actually saw this performance on the Incubus Update Instagram (I think?) and had no idea you had to learn that song on the fly...your energy was spot on and it seemed like you guys were all having so much fun! It must have been the perfect, oddly satisfying mix of terrifying but super fun at the same time. One thing I can tell for sure is that the crowd loved it, and I did too! This is proof that sometimes it doesn't hurt to jump into something completely new and surprising feet first. I can't help but feel like although all of you were nervous, you also had a feeling you were gonna do great and pour all your rock music passion into it!
Also, you and Dave Grohl= two gods right there! He's a very cool guy, super humble, goofy, and so so talented (in other words the two of you have a lot in common, hehe). My parents came of age in the Grunge Rock era and both live in Olympia, WA (one of the major hubs for that very genre!) so some of the bands you listed, such as Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, and others like Nirvana, Soundgarden, and Audioslave are very close to their hearts. How did you feel when you first realized you were in the presence of some of these heroes? Do you remember? Fun fact: my mom actually served Eddie Vedder when she worked at a restaurant, and it took ALL her energy not to start fangirling or crying of happiness. It sounds like he was really nice too.
Thank you for sharing more of your wonderful music once again! Sending hugs from Washington, and I look forward to seeing you and the guys in Ridgefield in September :)
I was wondering about this just yesterday-- I was thinking about how I can't wait until August, that I just need that Incubus concert magic in my life, and then I started wondering, "Is this still special for them?"
Now that concerts are your job and it must be a literal blur of memories, how do you like...sift through that? Do you take mental snapshots of the really special moments like the The Who show, do you find photos/videos of old shows and go "Ohhhh yeaaah!"? Do you have a photographic memory that is literally bursting with fantastic stories and remember-when's every second? That would be distracting 😄
Hahaaaa “Chris had…Chris(?)”. I never heard these covers from you guys until now. You all killed it per usual, and I admire that you guys sometimes doubt your brilliance. I respect the humility as much as I respect your collective ability to kill it. I’m glad ya’ll didn’t say no, because I might like the covers more than the originals.
I swear you constantly bring up movies I could talk about forever. “Vacation” is one of my favorite movies of all time. My dad and I always have to stop whatever we’re doing and watch it when it’s on TV. The inside jokes we have because of that movie and the sequels are abundant.
“This is crazy! This is crazy! This is crazy! I’m in deep. I’m in deep.” – Clark Griswold when asked to sing a cover of a song he doesn’t know… and also when deciding to skinny dip with a wild Christie Brinkley as a married man.
Saying “yes”, being open to new challenges, new experiences is the essence of life. I am temperamentally a conservative and a coward. This was an inspiring piece
As an actor and singer as well, often times we get asked to do such strange things, lol, and I often have been wise to say "no," due to time constraints, and other things; however, when I have spontaneously decided to say YES to something that might have not been so wise, I end up learning from it the most. It assisted with facing fears, showed me parts of myself that I once didn't know I was capable of, and stretched me toward the unknown and I survived it. It's dope as hell to take a risk and come out of it with even more wisdom than if you said no.
Love this story! Incubus=magic. The end.

Loved the background story- keep em coming :) x
I don't know the song, but it sounded good!! 👌
Wow, so brave! And it sounds great, what professionals you were! Tears for Taylor.

You and I must be on a similar wavelength.

As a 40+ year fan of The Who and former editor of a fanzine on them, you did the song proud. Sounded great and loved your memory of it!
