Greetings from California to all of you on this unusually serene, late September morning. I wanted to say hello and share another long lost and (admittedly) overlooked song idea that never made it past the cutting room floor. I’m not even sure I ever shared this with my pals in our band, but I do occasionally get the sense that some of my guitar ideas are a touch too rudimentary to capture Michael’s imagination. I say that while smiling and with my tongue softy pressed into my cheek. When I record song ideas like this I am under the assumption that if they enjoy the meat of the idea, they will bake a much more interesting loaf of bread to present the final sandwich with. That being said, if this were a sandwich, it would be a molded and fascinating display of decay, for this demo is over ten years old and I did not refrigerate it.
My apologies for the hard to discern vocals, I remember being enamored of the way the bathroom in my old studio sounded so I recorded these vocals in there, hence the far away sounding quality of my voice. But so be it; I feel like it has a vibe and it made me smile this morning upon its unearthing. I could wax philosophical about the content of the lyric and its allusions to God, and the strange double entendre I employ in the chorus, but I think I’ll leave that to you, dear listener. This song sketch is entitled, ‘The Minor Aches’, and I hope you hear it in your favorite headphones and that you watch decaying leaves falling slowly to the floor as you do.
Sending you lots of Love,
Brandon
These vocals gave me chills.... I would love for this to get thrown at Mikey! Thank you for sharing this gem.
I guess it’s a good thing you likely didn’t share this with the rest of your band so it isn’t a rotting sandwich, just yet?
What if your ideas are kind of like Levain or sourdough bread in general? As your environment changes, your starter (ideas) change with it. Your band mates add different types of flour, ingredients, folding methods, and us (your fans) get to devour the fresh loaf that y’all deliver with your music. I’ve been baking since I was a kid so take this thought process with a grain of salt.
Love the song and lyrics. Thank you for sharing.
