I call ahead to make sure places are still open because of Covid.
I travel a lot. Hotels can be downright gross no matter how nice or fancy. But ghosts are definitely real. I have one at home. She’s an older woman. She likes to hide things but mostly just creeps about. I work at a haunted asylum seasonally and I’ve had some crazy haunted encounters. I agree with Joanne about a hotel or ghost post. I bet you have some other interesting stories to tell.
The foot, I mean, not your food sensitivities lol.
There is a brewery here in Kalamazoo, MI called One Well. They make so many GF/vegan dishes and everything is beyond delicious. I don't have any intolerances but I think it's really great that they aren't just like "oh we can make this vegan", but that that is how it comes. I've tried some pretty tasty things I wouldn’t have otherwise! They also have like 100 pinball machines and old arcade games and it's awesome.
I understand this doesn't help you in Memphis 😂 but you should for sure stop by when you're between Chicago and Detroit, we'd love to have you!
My fiancé and I are definitely in the same boat as you (we’re vegan, gluten free and sugar free, among other things that just don’t agree with our tummies 😅). Always hard traveling and finding food. Luckily, he’s a plant based chef so usually he ends up making up something yummy for us. 🥰 while you’re in OKC if you need a place there’s some really good options! The best is probably the Red Cup 🥰 can’t wait to see you guys tomorrow! 💕💕
I feel your pain! Gluten free and lactose free here.. plus I'm also onion and garlic free and avoid meat as much as possible. Road tripped and wild camped for 5 weeks across the west of America in 2015 and 2019 pretty much gave up and suffered the consequences. The restaurants in the national parks and a place called Chocolate-Tree in Sedona were great but that's not very helpful where you are now.
Yet did a 7 day high altitude trek in the Andes and in jungle of Malaysia and had no problems! Fresh Rice, veggies and fruit appears to be the answer if all else fails. Beans on toast (gf) is a good backup.
I think 'your' foot needs a post all of its own about strange hotels. Im sure you have a few more stories. stayed in a old school house in Bisbee (AZ) very creepy, loads of old fashioned kids toys staring at you and creaky dimly corridors. Love these qwerky places.
Tried to do veggie in Norway but most options are generally the same meal minus the meat. I do love wondering around the supermarkets whenever I travel too
Great share; it’s interesting to hear that aspect of your tour as far as finding something that we all take for granted such as food, especially with your limitations. I think a lot of us take for granted what is out there and perhaps grab the “lowest bearing fruit” so to speak, or whatever is easiest to get at the moment so we can move on with our day I suppose. But to put thought into what we are actually putting in our bodies I think is the main goal, and that is what I am taking from your journal entry so I thank you. Safe travels sir and I look forward to your next post !
Fruit and nuts is the way to go when travelling.. definitely a fellow squirrel🐿️
I have also always been very lactose intolerant. Why do we suffer these Gluten, meat and lactose problems? The four toed foot Art is interesting!!? So many questions!? The best to you on your Journey 🧿💗🤚🌍✋💗🧿😘
😂😂😂 dying! Incubus, naked, dairy free and afraid! Omg.... but I am vegetarian by choice so I only have challenges here and there. Thank you for this read today, gave me a good laugh!
Me only eat HALAL ,when travels always Google search HALAL RESTAURANT NEAR ME ,Or VEGETARIAN RESTAURANT NEAR ME.If both option not availabe near me,i become
You really struck a chord with me in this post. I have several food sensitivities, some worse than others, so it’s a constant struggle whenever I travel and leave behind the comforts of my own little foodworld. Sometimes I have to just give up and eat whatever is available and suffer the consequences (lots of toilet time). But my biggest issue is that I LOVE pizza, and it’s nearly impossible to find one with gluten free crust and non dairy cheese (that also doesn’t taste like crispy cardboard with unidentifiable goop). Then I am humbly reminded that I am privileged in having a choice in what I can eat. So many billions of people do not have that opportunity to choose. Wishing safe and satiated travels to you, I will be flying across the Pacific to see you all in Chula Vista!
I have IBS so it took me years of trial and error to figure out what I can eat and what I should avoid if I don't want to be miserable. But the strange thing is I am actually good with dairy. And I usually don't have trouble finding something, but my limitations are different than yours. I have to be stay away from spicy things and greasy food and oddly fresh vegetables are rough on me. I also have to moderate caffeine intake and acidic things like juice. And I only have red meat sparingly. So basically rice works well for me haha. Maybe that's why I love Asian food. 🤔 Stirfry and sushi and that sort of thing is great. And wasabi is one of the few hot things I can eat that doesn't bother my digestion.
I typically bring the kitchen with me when I travel. I bring my camping stove, cooler of foods and cook up feasts in the hotel bathrooms. I'm also on a strict diet (vegetarian/gluten free) so it can be hard at times finding somewhere local to feed my grill.
How are you finding the South? See I moved here from the UK (This year will be 5 years ago already! ) so I can understand the, I guess you can somewhat call it a barrier, along with my out of place accent, over here! I would join you on the meat and cheese tour. Burgers seem to be my thing right now. Fast ass metabolism and where I am currently working allows me to burn off energy fast!
Me and my friend are coming to see you guys when you are in Atlanta. It would be awesome to frequent one of the restaurants there with y’all! I heard the Vortex is good, it isn’t right in the city but pretty much close to Atlanta area. I heard from a friend that they have the best burgers, so of course it piqued my interest! I was used to eating home cooked stuff back in the UK and do not turn down most vegetables so relocating to the states was a big culture shock, in many ways and not just the fact that we drive on the “wrong” side of the road in England.
That sucks, but you are in the south so yeaaaa. Limited choices unless you are in a cool spot urban progessive etc you gotta dig deep. I was a veggie for a long time but way too active to maintain that lifestyle now. My stomach just growled actually shhh. I can eat anything and it disappears into the abyss but have zero and i mean zero tolerance for alcohol of any kind, so I guess we all have our demons. Hope your tummy found some yummies this tour!
I ordered the "veggie plate" in the Nashville airport. I got 2 pancakes, coleslaw and baked beans. When the waitress set this odd plated collection in front of me, I said, "There must be a mistake. I ordered the veggie plate." Without skipping a beat she said, "You're in Nashville, honey. That IS the veggie plate." The only vegetable on that plate was the cabbage that was mixed with mayo and sugar. :\
Preparedness is the only thing that gets me by when Postmates, Grubhub, Ubereats and DoorDash fail me. Good luck in your quest!
First, I want to apologize for not having any suggestions to help you on your quest for food! I can relate to your dilemma though. I have a 19 yr old kid who has selective eating disorder or I think it's called ARFID now. Any time we traveled, it revolved around his diet. He basically eats the same 10 things all the time and won't eat or try anything else. It was hard to look for places that had things he would eat. Now that he is older, he doesn't travel with us often so we are finally able to enjoy trying new things. I am 38 and I think I am still young enough to sophisticate my palate! Your suggestion on planning better might be the way to go. I am not a planner, I am a procrastinator. So I know planning can and will help 🙂 Great show tonight BTW, first time seeing Incubus live❤

That's super weird.

Oh yeah, onions kill me!
I did something called a low FODMAP diet for a while to figure this.sounds like we suffer from the same things. I Wish you all the best with it xx
I just found out about that diet a few months ago. It does sound like we're in a similar boat! Same to you! ❤

The strangest thing for me is the way in the US they give you a cup of tea as a mug of hot water! I was so happy to see a teapot in Dennys
